I still need to fine tune the details and goals of my resolutions for 2009 but I wanted to share what I have so far. It really is a lot of typical stuff that many people resolve to do. If I can sum it up in one word it would be - discipline. I believe that a disciplined life can accomplish much and provide a lot of benefits and joys. It also allows me to prioritize what comes first and how to make decisions to meet my other goals. I temper this resolution with 2 things- the fact that fun and spontaneity are important and need to be placed above a routine at times...and that ultimately the Lord is my guide and my scheduler. I believe my goals are all good things that would glorify Him- but I leave them at His feet each day to seek out how He would want me to spend my time.
* Reading, memorizing, studying, and meditating on God's Word.
2008 was a big stepping stone for me as I learned about the bigger picture of the Bible and found out many fascinating things I never knew were in there. I came to love God's Word and trust it more this past year.
* Exercise
I know that this is on just about everyone's list. And I know that last year Greg got me a 6 month membership to the rec and I only went periodically for 3 months. So I put this one in here with trepidation. I now have an aerobics video that I really enjoy and we are borrowing a treadmill so I am hopeful! I want my body to be healthy and well cared for.
* Grow in friendship
I've never really thought about resolving to be a better friend before. I have really let friendships just "happen" in the past and if they stick its great and if not, oh well. I've been reading a lot about becoming a person who has good boundaries in her life and who seeks out safe people and develops herself to be a safer person in friendships. Greg and I might only be in College Station another 6-8 months. I want to be intentional in developing relationships that will last beyond our time here.
* Finances
I've been super proud of us in the savings category so far! My resolution is to be very intentional about our saving and spending in this year of tremendous changes. I want to give generously, save aggressively, and spend wisely on ourselves, especially in the area of housing if we move.
* Marriage
Two things come to mind that I want to do better this year for Greg: I want to serve him more with my hands and a cheerful heart. I want to relish the opportunities I have to love him in this way. I also want to be a better "student of my spouse." I want to invest my time in getting to know my best friend better and understand him in new ways!
* Giving
I guess this can apply to each of the areas above. I want to give more - in my time with the Lord, my friendships and family, my finances, and to Greg. I know that boundaries need to be set in these areas to keep myself healthy, but once I find those I will truly enjoy growing in joyful generosity this year.
Have you got New Year's resolutions?

Last summer I found a copy of Dance Praise (the Christian ripoff of DDR) in a thrift store for dirt cheap, and it's turned out to be one of my favorite games as well as a pretty decent aerobic workout. I highly recommend looking into these sorts of games if you're like me and have trouble motivating yourself to exercise.
