Nesting and more BH

I think nesting encompasses way more than me cleaning the house and getting the nursery ready. Greg has had major nesting compulsions, too! All of a sudden, house projects have taken on a new priority and focus. We finally got most of the pictures up on the walls where we wanted them. We re-arranged some furniture in our bedroom. Greg's mom made us some gorgeous custom curtains that we now have installed. They also very graciously weeded our flower beds and planted some pretty flowers for us. (If I'm still walking around with Emily inside at 40 weeks, I will be the one weeding the flower beds!!). The house is looking much more homely and it already is feeling cooler inside with the added insulation of the curtains. Our 22 year old windows are still well insulated, but they don't have Low-E glass. So the heat from the sun comes pouring through and bakes the house each day. We are in the process of choosing some UV window film to coat the windows on the front side of the house. That way we can open the curtains once in a while and not live in a cave. :-) Pictures of the newly transformed rooms soon to come! The nursery is not ready yet, so you'll have to wait for pictures from that! I am getting clothes washed and put away and toys and books compiled and organized. But I still don't have any decorations on the walls yet. Still...it's essentially ready for her and she'll be staying in our room in the pack n play for a bit anyway.

We had a little excitement a couple nights ago (although I was NOT excited at the time). I started having some pretty intense cramping and BH around 3am. I knew for sure that I wasn't dehydrated, because I had been downing water all night. But I got up anyway and drank my 3 glasses of water at one time and laid back down to see if they'd subside. They didn't. Around 3:30 I started my first attempt at timing contractions. It's really hard to tell when they start! I had an underlying crampy ache the whole time and needed to try and discern when the belly was tightening on top of that and when it subsided. Eventually I started noticing a pattern of it instensifying every 6 minutes. That really freaked me out. Patterned contractions = not good this early! That lasted til around 6am. I decided after laying down until 4:30 and nothing changing that I needed to get up, walk around, eat something...anything to see if I could change the pattern. None of those things helped. When I got in the shower at 6, though, they stopped. Yay for an effective distraction! After that, I had a really upset stomach the rest of the morning. I had a few more contractions around 7:45 when I was busy running around the office, and those stopped by 8:30 and never came back. I called the nurse line at my midwive's office around 1 just to check in and see if I needed to come in. I didn't think I would since I wasn't having any more contractions. She said the upset stomach was probably a 24 hour stomach bug that is going around. 3 other women had called in within the last day with the same symptoms as me paired with BH and she thought we all had the bug. I went on the BRAT diet for yesterday through breakfast this morning and I've had no more problems. I slept soundly last night and my stomach is fine now. So we think that all the stomach stuff triggered the BH. I'm only at 35 weeks and really want to make it at least a couple more weeks!! I've heard from a few people that if you have lots of BH leading up to the big day that it could mean a shorter labor. I know everyone is different, but I sure hope that it is true!

  1. My sister in law just had her baby last week at 42 weeks. She was technically in active labor a week; contractions would start in the morning, be about 4 minutes apart all day, then stop at night. The good news is that when the contractions finally started getting hard, it started at 12midnight, she went into her birthing center to meet her midwife at 5am, and was 7cm! The baby was born at 6:21am. The awesome thing about natural delivery is allowing your body do what it was designed to do! Hang in there. We're all praying for you, Greg and little Emily.
