What we've been up to

A VISIT

A couple of weeks ago, we had fun getting to introduce Emily to her third set of grandparents! Grandaddy and Gigi (my dad and step-mom) came in town for a few days. They were so nice to allow Greg and me to have a date night, and I used a gift certificate that my friend Dana gave me for a one hour massage. Both were heavenly and much needed! I think they had a good time, too, getting to love on their granddaughter. While they were here, we had a great Carolina BBQ meal at their bed and breakfast. The owner had attended cooking school and really knew how to cook! They were a couple who had orinally lived in Tennessee, so I relished getting to hear her accent. There was also a young couple staying at the B&B that week who were originally from Austria and had also lived in Australia for some time. They were on the tail end of a 4 month road trip across the US. They started in Seattle and were ending in NYC. How fun is that?

A WEDDING

The following weekend we attended my friend Jen's wedding. Jen and Mark were our next door neighbors when we first moved up here. They decided to get married in the small old church where she grew up. It is an hour drive from Millersville through breath-taking farmland and rolling hills. Emily did really well considering the drive and all the activity. This is not the greatest picture, but it is the only one we took that day.

JOB

Good news on the job front. I am going to be doing data entry for the school I worked for the past year. It probably won't be very many hours, because there isn't that much to enter each month. But it is something that I can easily do from home, and it will be just a little income to either put in retirement for me or to help us save for a car when the time comes for getting another one. I am thankful that the Lord has allowed me to be at home full time and has also provided this avenue for a little income and a way to stay connected to the school.

BIBLE STUDIES

I have been very happy to get connected to two studies this fall. The first one is with a group of about 15 ladies at the church every other Wednesday morning. We are going through Nancy Leigh DeMoss' book "Gratitude". Oh how timely!! When I step back and look at the goodness of the Lord to me, I am overwhelmed and grateful for my life. But I do let the sin of ingratitude sweep over me during the day to day challenges that I face. I don't know if it is my personality, or if I just learned the bad habit along the way, but I do struggle with being a complainer. This book is helping me to focus on the importance of being grateful in every circumstance and how that unleashes joy and a strong testimony in my life. I am enjoying the book and enjoying meeting with these ladies!

The other study I am doing is with two sweet friends every other Monday night (and possibly a third gal I have not yet met). We are starting to go through Beth Moore's "Daniel" study. We have only watched the first video session, but I am already hungry for more. It focuses on the similarities between the excessiveness of Babylonian culture and our American culture, and it will dive into the prophecies of Daniel as well. I am so glad to have this challenging and Word-focused study to dive into! And I am so happy to be doing it with ladies I am excited to get to know better, pray for, and support.

  1. I have not done the Beth Moore Daniel study, but I just finished up a year of studying that book through Kay Arthur's Precepts Upon Precepts study. AMAZING. I love how actually studying the Word instead of just reading it (good as well) is so powerful.

  2. Loved reading all the updates! That Gratitude book study sounds really good! I think a lot of people tend to complain a lot (including myself). I'll have to add that to my wish list!
