As we take down the Christmas decorations around the house, finish off the leftovers, and move along in our thoughts toward the new year, I want to pause and reflect on the fact that Christmas really is "glad tidings". The word tidings means news or intelligence. So when we sing "Glad tidings we bring to you and your kin" we are we saying, "Hey! I have good news to bring to you!" Christmas is about the very good news of God coming to the earth to bring salvation to us lowly, sinning, hopeless people. And He did it because He loves us so much! I can think of no other thing to be more thankful for.
Greg and I have so much to be thankful for. My heart is just bursting with thankfulness right now. My love language has been gifts the last few years, so my love tank gets refilled around times like this when presents galore show the thoughtfulness and creativity of loved ones. When every Christmas card I get to place on my fridge is a precious gift and reminder that we have friends around the world with whom we share a sweet relationship. But above and beyond all these gifts is the treasure of the good news of Jesus Christ. He is my pearl of great price. He is the treasure that is worth selling all for and holding on tightly to. Jesus never disappoints. His love never fails. Hallelujah, what a Savior!
