We took Emily in for her 9 month check-up on Friday and were surprised to hear that she is already 28 1/2 inches long (75%) and weighed in at 17 lb 11 oz (~40%). She is growing well and the doc said we definitely needed to cut out the night nursing habit. She had been putting up a huge fight about it all week (we have all three been super sleep deprived!!!) but the doc was clear that she was also nap deprived and needed to go to bed much earlier than I'd been putting her down both for naps and bedtime. So Friday night we put her to bed at 6:30 instead of 7-7:30 and, though she did wake up 3-4 times, she never screamed and I didn't have to feed her to get her back to sleep. Woohoo! Last night she was in bed by 6:30 again and only woke up briefly twice last night, again no screaming or eating. She's also been taking really good morning naps the past 2 days. Still need to work on the afternoon nap(s), but we'll get there. Even though the schedule is a lot earlier than I want it to be (down for bed at 6:30 and up for the day at 6...ugh...) we have been completely unsuccessful at getting her to sleep past 6am or go back to sleep after nursing at 6 with the lights off. So keeping her up later in hopes that she'd go back to sleep til 7 or later just hasn't worked. And it has created a sleep deficit for her that has impacted her ability to stay asleep throughout the day and night. We just have an early riser on our hands, I guess. One blessing is that it does give Greg and me lots of time together at night.
Doc was also proactive on our food allergy concerns. I already have an appt with my allergist on May 18th to go over her possible allergies to oats, barley, carrots, pumpkin, and parsnips (yes, we got a rash with all of these...) But the pedi wants to go ahead and draw blood work before that appt so that I have a starting point at the May appt already. I could be seeing something that is not allergy-related, but it only popped up within 30 minutes of eating these new foods then it would fade away within an hour or two. Who knows?? I sure hope she's not allergic to wheat!!!
