I have to do some serious bragging on my family at the moment :-)
First, my sweet sis Lauren came up to see me today for lunch! She drove from Houston to grab a quick bite with me before heading back home to welcome her friend Anne into town for the weekend. It was such a blessing to see her and know that we are still within driving distance to "grab lunch" every now and then. Thanks, sis! Love you!!!
Greg gets some serious kudos today, too, for his majorly awesome hubby moment yesterday. So the topic in last week's sunday school class was the 5 love languages and how important it is to know how you and your spouse give love best and receive it best. If you have not read "The 5 Love Languages" by Gary Chapman, please read it! Even if you are not married, it is a great way to understand yourself better and the people you love in your life. So the handout had you go through the 5 different types and figure out your strengths and weaknesses. My strongest receiving love language is gifts at the moment. I hate admitting that, because it sounds so materialistic. But I really do get a rush from someone thinking about me and giving me something they think I'll like- even if it's just a sonic drink every now and then.
Well Greg took this knowledge to heart and the dear boy went to the mall yesterday to buy me a sweater I've been eyeing! I was so surprised and I really did feel so loved. It is actually the exact sweater that is on the model 2 posts down. This is an even bigger deal b/c we never really shop for new clothes. I usually just wear hand-me-downs I get or find something new looking at garage sales. So that showed me lots of love.
After I tried on the sweater for him, we took a nice walk outside with Buddy to spend some *quality time* together- Greg' s best received love language!
It's been fun to have a week of re-discovering how to be a blessing to each other in these ways. I challenge you to find someone's love language out and figure out a way to do that for them. The five areas are words of affirmation, physical touch, acts of service, gifts, and quality time.
