Another day settled in

Time is flying by this week. I can't believe it's already Wednesday night! It's been a blast getting to spend full days with Greg without having to go to work each day. We have really been blessed by this time together. We woke up this morning a little later than planned and had to scurry around to get the rooms cleared and us showered before the painter arrived. I had been told that washing clothes for a few days after painting inside the house could cause the clothes to smell like paint. So I started the washing machine before the shower to run a load of my clothes (the only ones I packed with me were all dirty!) To my dismay, the "cold" setting on the washing machine produced steaming hot water! I had hot soapy water in the basin and didn't want to risk shrinking my clothes. So I had to let the wash run it's cycle empty and squeeze in a very quick shower. The maintenance guy had been super prompt and already come the afternoon before we'd discovered the washer problem. So we called him back and he came out late this morning. Not only did he need to switch the hook-ups for the hot and cold, he also had to put a cap on the air vent b/c apparently the cap was missing and letting air clip clap through the vent. It made a really annoying banging sound without the w/d running, so putting the cap on it helped silence that. He also replaced our thermostat and replaced the air conditioner capacitor. That is the part that helps the fan part of the a/c to work properly. After that got replaced and he refilled our freon, the place started cooling down nicely. It was great to catch all these things in the first couple days so that they could get worked on before the chaos of boxes and furniture arrives. It was also a good reminder to me that even when something looks really beautiful on the surface, things can still be messed up on the inside.

We got the living room and master bedroom accent walls painted!!! They look GREAT! I am so happy with my paint colors :-) And I am really happy that we let a painter do the grunt work. I don't think we could have edged it in like he did. Plus, we came back to the house an hour after he was done and we couldn't smell paint fumes at all. They are both greens. The living room is a darker mossy/sage green and the living a grassy/pastel green. I don't know that these pictures will really convey the colors very well, but the first is a picture of the living room and the second of the master:
Here is a picture of me being really excited about my awesome living room color:
We went to campus while the painter was working in the townhome, and we all got to see Greg's office for the first time! At first he was assigned to one on the second floor in the corner. But they switched everything around so that he now has a first floor office right next to his mentor! It is a much better location for him to be able to interact with his colleagues. It is also in an office wing of the hallway rather than being directly next to a classroom. Here's a picture of him in his new office and a picture of his building, Hash Hall:

Now let's just hope that the two bookcases in his office will hold all 25 boxes worth of books that Greg packed!!! None of those better end up in our home bookcases :-p

We also had tons of fun shopping for clothes today. We went to both outlet malls and the department store mall. Greg's parents generously offered to help us start a winter wardrobe as part of his graduation present. The store clerks seemed to indicate that we were about a week early for their fall selections. But even with that, I was able to get a pair of gray wool dress pants and a cable knit gray v-neck sweater. Greg got black dress pants, khaki dress pants, a gray button down, and a black sweater. So that's a great start!!

We walked through the closest wholesale warehouse today, BJ's, and decided that despite it's highly effective advertising, the prices actually were not any lower than the grocery store up here. So sad! That place is only a 3 minute drive away. Tomorrow we are making the 20 minute drive to Costco to see how they stack up against the competition. We are also hoping to do a baseball game tomorrow night. Decided against it tonight when the internet router wouldn't work. We did finally get that up and running not too long ago, so I think it was a good decision to postpone going to the game.

Well I think that's about all today! Will fill you in on more adventures tomorrow :-)
