Reflections

One more day down and only a few more hours to drive tomorrow to get to Lancaster! Today's drive was light years better than yesterday's in terms of scenery and weather. It was 62 degrees (that's cold to me, people) this morning when we left Birmingham, Alabama. We hardly used the a/c the entire trip today, which helped cancel out the hills on the gas mileage. I seriously can't describe the beauty of the mountains we saw today. It must have been about 500 miles of mountainous terrain through Tennessee and Virginia. I found myself constantly in awe of the trees, the slopes, and the rocky corridors. Mile after mile taking in one breathtaking view after the next. As I drove I had so many thoughts flood my mind. I wished at the time that I had pen and paper b/c I knew I wanted to share them here. After a long and tiring day, I don't remember much anymore!

I realized along I-81 somewhere that the Lord was truly on the drive with me... and already has gone before us into PA. He's not just in Texas with all the people I know who love Him and worship Him alongside me. I knew this of course in my head. But my heart owned it today. As I belted out Chris Tomlin songs during the stretch of the drive where I was in the C-RV alone, I just knew that the Spirit was rejoicing over my worship. These same familiar songs and the unchanging Word will help me to anchor my walk with the Lord in a new place.

I realized that I still want to live in Tennessee one day. In Eastern TN specifically...where all the peaceful and glorious mountains are.

It was a sweet time for me driving through Tennessee today. I was seeing towns and exits to other towns that I've grown up hearing about from my family and have grown to love because they love these places. Chattanooga w/ the Chattanooga Choo Choo on Lookout Mountain... Knoxville where Mom and Aunt Sue both went to college... Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg where Granmama and Grandaddy used to vacation (I think? I need to refresh my memory on why those were common places to them.)

One thing that really weirded Greg and me out was changing the time to Eastern Standard Time on our cars. Those cars might not see Central Time again. Whoa! We are used to seeing our cell phone clocks change when we travel, but to change the time on your car to a new time zone seems very permanent. We realized that our new world exists in EST and not CST. It's one of those little changes that we thought was a big change. I was ready to call lots of people around 1pm and realized that most of the people I wanted to call would just be getting out of church at noon. It will take some getting used to!

There's a little insight into our day. Tomorrow, we'll be "home". Will be able to update the blog on Tuesday hopefully when we get internet set up in our townhome. Much love- I miss you all very much already!

  2. I'm an eastern-Tennessee fanatic too. The Smoky Mountains and surrounding area are a fantastic place. Hooray Gatlinburg. My grandparents and family used to vacation in that area every year! It's been far too long since I've been there.
