Trendy, I know :-)
29/30 weeks might have been a little early for a babymoon, but we took advantage of the 3 day weekend and had a little fun while I am still energized enough to get out and about. We opted to stay in town and have our own comfy bed and use the otherwise-budgeted hotel money for other things. It was great, and I plan to try to implement a little Memorial Day staycation tradition now. Who wants to pay the extra holiday hotel fees anyway?
We dropped Buddy off at the kennel Saturday morning so that we (=Greg) could have a few days to not have to wake up early to feed him and we didn't have to get back home at a certain time to take him out for a walk. Saturday morning we hit the sales at the outlet mall! Greg found a few items at Eddie Bauer and I (hopefully) finished out my maternity wardrobe with a few more shirts. We also picked out 2 little outfits for miss Emily at Carter's, though she is pretty well stocked from all the generous gifts from friends and family. Then we headed out to Amish country, and I got a wonderful massage at a bed and breakfast (not run by the Amish). We ate out at a casual italian restaurant and changed the after-dinner plans from going to the movie theater to see Robinhood to going home and renting Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian on redbox. I still want to see Robinhood, but it was so nice to come back home and veg out early instead.
Sunday we did get up and go to church, and we were so glad that we did. Greg was really blessed by the praise and worship time, and we both felt like we got a soaker-hose of scriptural teaching on the history of Israel and God's purposes for His people. It was a great overview that I will enjoy referring back to. We meant to stay for our Sunday School class, but I had forgotten to pack a snack and none was provided that day (normally someone from the class brings something), so we were bad and skipped the class and opted for a lunch out instead. We went to one of our faves- Grand Central Bagel. Sunday afternoon consisted of a loooong nap and watching some old episodes of 24 on Netflix. Then it was off to our splurge dinner. We went to a downtown place called The Pressroom for the first time. I thought the place was a little loud and way too casual of an atmosphere for the price tag, but my food was pretty good and Greg said his food was amazing. Might be our last fancy dinner for a long time, so I was glad that we went!
Monday we slept in late and went to BabiesRUs and Target to grab the Memorial Day sales there. We restrained ourselves from going crazy and getting everything on our list (after all, we don't need all of it quite yet or even before Emily arrives and there might be good sales later on) but we did have fun getting a few things that I wanted to have ready. From there I got to spend a little while just sitting in Emily's room organizing things and being in complete awe of 1)how amazing and generous our family and friends are and 2) how much stuff comes with a baby.
We ate at home Monday night, fell asleep early, and started normal life again with a dog and jobs Tuesday morning. It was a blissful, fun, and restful weekend that I know will soon be a luxury that we will no longer have. We were happy to see that though we shopped and dined all weekend, we came in under our vacation budget, too!
